Oliver Warren is a queer British-born writer and director whose storytelling is shaped by his rich history in documentary and high-fashion filmmaking.
As a queer filmmaker, Oliver gravitates toward projects that explore and celebrate otherness, championing his belief that difference, and those on the margins, are fundamental to a healthy society and should be embraced, not hidden. From his provocative graduate documentary FAG HAGS (2001) to his current slate of television, film and literary projects, Oliver’s work returns again and again to questions of belonging: seeking it, performing it, and the cost of it..
Oliver’s current slate includes CUSP, a queer family drama pilot script selected for OutInHollywood’s 2026 Out Loud List; WE/US now in development as a TV series with Bohemia Originals; and Slightly Feral, his literary passion project: a zine of queer fiction and darkly comic stories.
Oliver’s filmmaking journey began with his master’s degree in Documentary Production, where he first learned that every story we tell is, in some way, our own. His exploration of high-fashion filmmaking during the ‘fashion film’ explosion of 2008 was an unexpected but natural evolution. Initially intimidated by the fashion and beauty world, Oliver found his hook in the relatable human vulnerabilities hidden in its exaggerated reality (so much pain and otherness, masked by crystals and feathers) where he carved a place for himself.
Running Dingo Bill Productions, his own production company, for ten years taught him not only the intricacies of production but also the practicalities of delivering bold visuals in the real world and on real budgets. These experiences honed a unique ability to balance authenticity, style and deliverables, a hallmark of his work across commercial and narrative storytelling.
While Oliver has built a substantial career in the commercial world, his deepest passion has always been narrative filmmaking. He realised this dream with his first short film, CUSP (2015), a multi-award-winning exploration of growing beyond one’s hometown. Now reimagined as a US pilot script, CUSP has been recognised by the 2026 Out Loud List, which celebrates outstanding unproduced LGBTQ+ screenplays. His latest short film, the award-winning WE/US (2025) - a technological re-imagining of his own coming out story, premiered at the prestigious HollyShorts Film Festival in LA, won Best Featurette at San Francisco’s celebrated Another Hole In The Head Festival, and is now evolving into a TV series in development with Bohemia Originals.
Having lived and worked in both the US and UK, Oliver considers himself a New Yorker and a Londoner in equal measure, creating films and stories designed to resonate across markets, cultures and communities. With television and feature scripts in development internationally, Oliver is represented globally by Justin Ross at Bohemia Group for writing, directing and producing, and for fashion and commercial directing by Image Partnership.
